Happy New Year!
Hope you all had a wonderful holiday with your loved ones ringing in 2017. We had a wild night at home with two little girls who got glommed up in their new Frozen dress-up dresses, yes we are in the Frozen phase over here. They stayed up past their bedtime, got a sliver of German chocolate cake, and I found a last minute New Years’ Eve set at Target that had blow horns, crowns and poppers. We did a mini countdown on Baba’s phone, but they were still oblivious, overly tired and cared only about biting the string to the poppers. Husband and I managed to stay up until midnight and did a sweet and simple champagne toast while watching the NYC countdown on the tube.
I haven’t yet set any goals in stone, written them down, and I haven’t even had time to meditate on them to be honest. I do like to jot several things down that I want to work on over the next year, there’s something about putting a pen to paper and reflecting on that every now and then- even if it does get shuffled on your desk and hidden under piles of old receipts and junk mail.
The week of Christmas we all went to Belmar for ice skating! I say, “ice skating,” loosely. With toddlers, it is more like mom and dad using all of their tiniest muscles they didn’t know they while attempting to stand upright on ice and holding a flailing little person who insists on kicking their feet as if they were running. I took THE biggest tumble while trying to hold Remy, not advised, and luckily she was completely fine and we had the FREE helmets on, but my black knee is STILL sore!
After a couple of laps around, the girls were more than ready to get their boots back on and get in the stroller. They were so anxious to get ON that ice, but they weren’t exactly begging to stay on. So, skating with toddlers is a little bit challenging, so I would advise maybe going with extended family for babysitting while you can get a glide in. Husband and I were able to go around a couple times toddler free, thanks to our friend Amy of Bonella Photography, who also snapped these family photos.
I have four ice skating passes to Belmar Ice Rink up for grabs to one lucky reader! Leave a comment below with a favorite ice skating memory of yours for a chance to win. A winner will be drawn at random and contacted for a mailing address to receive the tickets. Enter/comment by midnight, MST, January 4th. The ice rink at Belmar is open daily (see schedule for times) through January 8, 2017, and then on weekends through January 29th. The perfect winter date!
