Glad you found us!

I don't ski, I don't drink craft beer and I don't have a dog, but by golly I am a real Colorado native girl.  So now you can still believe in unicorns!  Here's my ode to motherhood, you know because all of us bloggers write like we were the first, only and last mama out there.

Apple Cider Making with Pa

Apple Cider Making with Pa

The girls and I just got back from a LONG and FULL Labor Day weekend in the North Folk area of Colorado! This momma is pooped, but are back at our swimming classes and school already.  These trips out west to see my Dad with my girls, almost clear to Utah, is extremely special to me.  My Dad bought this property a few years back after retiring in Florida first. I am thankful he is back in Colorado, even though it still feels like another state out there.  It is quite a trek, and definitely a slower-paced, country sort of life where he is, and there's something about it that I just SOAK up when I am there.  I can't help but take my camera out so much when I am there because the sunsets and the light, the scenery and the way of life are all just so perfect.  So MUCH gold to take in!  From the acres and acres of corn, to the yellowing of the bean plants, to the blossoming sunflower fields.  All that yellow against purple and blue cliffs and peaks in the background, agains, green orchards and grapevines, it is easy to want to take as many opportunities as we can to get out there.

My Dad has been busy on his farm.  Not only is he a self-taught musician, guitarist, and crazy talented, the man taught himself GREEK.  He was one of the first to get online and had to web shopping, while it never took off, I KNOW, he is a brilliant man.  Now he has taught himself how to make wine, mead and ciders!  They area all INCREDIBLE!  His cabernet sauvignon is one of the best I have ever had and I just had his cider this last trip- it tastes crisp, refreshing, summery and smooth- like champagne!  I am not over exaggerating, I am super proud of this guy.

As I get older, I see a LOT of his traits and characteristics in my own temperament and personality manifesting.  Some of the highlights of this last trip were having coffee and watching Sherlock Holmes with him after the girls went to bed, and also having the girls help and see the apple cider making process.  One morning the girls helped my Dad pick apples that had fallen from his trees on the property, being so busy he hasn't been able to gather them up as fast as I think he had wanted to, some worm holes here and there on a few, but we managed to find a bucket full of great ones!

A couple nights later, day sanitized his working space and prepped to juice them.  We got to see him wash the apples, chop them and push them through a juicer and pour into his containers.  I also got to see his mead he had brewing, and also indulge in the ready-made stuff!  Mead, cider, cab-sav... the best!  I joke he needs to start a label, but he is truly just into his craft and doing his thing.  I find some of the most incredible DOERS are just DOING for themselves, for self-delight and self-fulfillment.  My sister is another one like that, she makes mineral makeup hues and also resin art.  I will always sing their praises, I am so proud of them!  My brother has talent in drawing and art and my mother was always a sewer and now into scrap-booking, card making.  Just, WOW.  I can only share of all their goodness and shine a little glow on their talents every now and again on this space through some photos.

Here are some photos from the morning the girls helped Pa gather appeals, and from a couple evenings later.  Also going in the memory bank, watching my girls play in his front yard as I sat on the porch swing drinking cider or coffee, seeing them play soccer, or make cakes from the pine needles, climbing Pa's apple trees, and finding big, fuzzy caterpillars.  Feels like an F. Scott Fitzgerald book when I am there... At one point, Remy found a "wish," a gray dandelion and she made a wish.  She ran up to me and said she made a birthday wish for Arlo, but not to tell her.  There have been some incredibly sweet sister moments between these two girls lately. Something else they love to do at Pa's house, make up songs and sing, sing, SING, and twirl in their living room in the middle of the floor.  These girls love their visits to Pa just as much, if not more, than their momma.

Remy's vest is thrifted/vintage but this one is great and only $15! They are both wearing thrifted/vintage outfits for apple picking and Peppa Pig pajamas (similar) and Trolls jammies. Here is a similar blue floral dress from Zulily, or this style, very close!
