Brunchkins with Munchkins: Dozens
On Monday, I decided that I would attempt taking the girls to a restaurant, by myself! I just didn't feel like cracking eggs or making oatmeal. It went off pretty good, minus the part where Remy choked on mushroom. A little slippery and she didn't chew it but it slid right down once she realized she could swallow it- my heart! I told you gray hairs are coming... We had our little basket of toys and crayons and a new coloring book she got as a party favor over the weekend. Remy loves coloring at meal time. We ordered the 6th Avenue omelette, mushrooms, Swiss cheese and spinach- yum! It comes with potatoes and we subbed the toast for a pancake which Remy and Arlo happily ate up. Their bellies are still small enough that one meal was more than enough to share between us.
We went to a little spot called Dozens close to our house and sat on the deck. I wrote a little synopsis of the restaurant on my Zomato account, formerly Urban Spoon. Loving sharing my thoughts on restaurants there and discovering new places too! It was perfect fall weather for our light sweaters. I am so excited for sweater weather! Again, hints of fall style by slipping in sleeves, but in lighter colors and weights. Also, flare leg denim! I swear if you hang onto things long enough, they come right back in style! I read once recently that one thing you should always hang onto is denim. It is so expensive that each pair really is an investment. I got this pair of Hudson jeans when I was working at Nordstrom many moons ago. They are fraying at the hem, a big no no to go around town in them like that, BUT, they are perfect for running errands and hitting up the playground in. I have a "good" pair that isn't worn on the hem for nicer days.
After brunch we went to Target to get Remy a small toy and we found these rubbery dinos in the $3 bin. We visited a park we had only been to once before, for a birthday party over a year ago, called Bible Park. We love exploring new playgrounds and parks, so it's fun to introduce the girls to new spots. A friend recently told me about this app that shows you the nearest playground to your location, Play Denver, which I have found useful on occasion.
We pushed the naps back a tad bit later this day, I have been napping them from 1-3 together, and days that they DO actually go down, together, and for a couple hours, are some good days. Also, Arlo is walking! Well, taking steps here and there, and then dropping and crawling because she wants to get there faster, but she does this cute little stiff legged waddle, and she has been holding her shirt near her heart with one hand and the other arm straight in the air as if to say, "Ahhh... you got me!" And how about that blonde hair, golden skin and lashes?! Such a pretty baby...
Remy has been showing off her climbing skills and loved this whirly yellow ladder. I was pushing Arlo on the swings and looked over to find her at the top! She was murmuring, "I scared, mama, I scared..." But this was AFTER she had already reached the top and she calmly came down all by herself. Such a brave one for two!
Trying to be better about capturing this time of the three of us together more. I want to remember how I was with them too.
Any fun mom apps you guys like to use? Would love to hear in the comments! Also, who is ready for fall?!
Remy is wearing a $3 sale sweater from H&M, a skirt from Paper Wings, $5 shoes from Walmart, and her tights were on clearance at Target, but of course they got a run in them before we left brunch so they are already goners. Arlo is wearing a vintage yellow cardigan, a top that was Remy's by Pumpkin Patch, which was a gift, and new donut leggings that were a birthday gift from Nana. Her shoes are Robeez and were Remy's. I am wearing new shades, $12, and a new scarf, $21, from Inspyre Boutique, an old sweater from Anne Taylor, old denim flares by Hudson from Nordstrom, and old clogs from Nine West.
