Reheated-coffee-reading.

Glad you found us!

I don't ski, I don't drink craft beer and I don't have a dog, but by golly I am a real Colorado native girl.  So now you can still believe in unicorns!  Here's my ode to motherhood, you know because all of us bloggers write like we were the first, only and last mama out there.

Bump Out to Brunch

Bump Out to Brunch

I hit 33 weeks this past Tuesday! Or, in other words, 44 days to go! Who is counting though?! Yesterday, I headed to the Highlands area for a blogger brunch hosted by Merida and Kelsey of Studio 9720, who also head up the Denver chapter of the Southwest Blogger Society. These girls are in everybody's biz around town...closet biz that is. Remember when they raided my closet last summer? I was postpartum from Remy and looking back I was puffy, and exhausted looking! Then they raided little Remy's closet too!

They tried to wrangle all of the Denver bloggers together for a mingle. Three other bloggers and I, along with Merida and Kelsey met up at Root Down for a bite to eat. There wasn't a hole lot of blogger talk happening, mostly a meet and greet, but I am interested to see what these meetings and events turn into. I really enjoyed meeting Kendall of Dipped In Yellow and Kelly of Love is the Journey. Both girls are fashion bloggers and young professionals. I was by far the eldest gal in the bunch, and definitely the only one with a baby AND a bump, but it was a nice change of pace to get out of my comfort zone and meet the fresh talent and trendy girls about town.

I was having a hard time finding something to wear in my closet, but this phrase has been on repeat in my mind a lot recently, "use what you have," borrowed from a post by another great Denver blogger, Anna of And Then We Saved. So I try on a couple things. What I had in mind was too short to be a dress and too long to be a cute top and was hitting me in an odd spot. I am tired of all my maxi dresses, and some are even getting pilled from washing. So I thought i would take a crack at a skirt and top. I don't have a ton of skirts, non are maternity, and all are from my office days. Except this gem. I bout this floral pencil midi skirt at H&M on our trip to NYC last December and it miraculously was stretchy enough to go over the bump! I tucked in this Diesel tee that I bought eons ago, (at least 10 years ago), and a pair of nude, stripy suede sandals from Aldo, from a couple years ago. My basket clutch with neon trim by Rebecca Minkoff and a bright pink lip from YSL and I FELT like a good fashion blogger for the morning. This look is super loud, colorful and a little quirky. Definitely not for everyone, but I felt like ME!

As for the food and service at Root Down, I'll pass. It took FOREVER! In third trimester-pregnant-lady-land 45 minutes to an hour to get brunch is WAYYYYY too long. Our waitress never came back to refresh waters or ask if we wanted another drink. Half of the 7 home fries I had on my plate were burned and the pile of arugula...oh the arugula- over it! The pancake was good, but it did have Kellogg's corn flakes on it??? Despite my harsh criticism, I am allowed it set me back $26, I did eat every morsel. Did I mention I am cooking a baby in here?!

I love breakfast and brunch. What are some of your favorite places around Denver or surrounding areas?

One of my faves is blocks away on Havana in Aurora. We always get a seat, portions are filling, staff is friendly and attentive, they have a great patio and it's close to home. Oh, and it's super affordable! Sometimes it's fun to take on the hype and take in scenery of a trendy spot, but I will always support and go back to great service and fair price.

Thanks for reading!
