Cereal Box Sunday
Last weekend was gray and gloomy, so we put on our loudest, and most eye-grabbing garb, well momma put it on us, and we hit the highway up north to The Cereal Box Denver.
This place has been on my radar for awhile now, because somehow I had heard about it and the fact that they have Kid Robot toys thee and fun underground hip hip-esque happenings. I LOVE old school hip hop, AND I learned about Kid Robot from my one and only, EVER, roomie, Ashley, when we attended Academy of Art University in San Francisco. I was there for Fashion Merchandising, and she was all of 17 or 18, and I was 24 and had already had apartments, car, boyfriends and breakups. We learned a lot from each other I am sure. Anyway, she introduced me to the Labbit. If you know, you know. And not THAT kind of rabbit, guys…
Fast forward to 2019, and I’m a momma to TWO little bunnies! We aren’t cereal eaters, unless you count oats, but occasionally I’ll ask them if they want a bowl of Raisin Bran or whatever I might have. They discovered Lucky Charms at their grandmother’s house. She has it on hand and all the cousins raid the cupboards for it when we go over there for dinner. So when we saw boxes and boxes of bright boxes boasting cartoons and candy, of course they were into it.
Lo went for classic Lucky Charms, no toppings. Rem went for Sour Patch Kids with Sour Patches and Jelly Beans on top! I had the Funky Monkey which was a Cinnamon French Toast and something else mixture with Banana Milk and Toffee Crunch sprinkled on top- SO GOOD! Husband had a concoction of Cocoa Crispies and Lions, a chocolate and peanut butter theme. His had whipped toppings which Lo had no hesitancies in having spoonfuls of.
The cutest moments were seeing Lo swing on the railing, albeit dangerous blah blah blah, and seeing the girls pour and sip their own milk from the little glass bottles. At the last sips of milk from the bowls, we let the girls pick out a toy, sort of like digging around that dark, empty box when all the grains were gone, blindly grabbing for your treasure. Remember that? Except there wasn’t any need to argue over who got the prize, because all of us girls got to pick out a special collector toy of our own, and they came in their own boxes and wrappers. No saw dusted fingertips and, definitely NO cheap, “secret agent code rings” (that’s an Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day reference if you had no idea).
Afterwards we walked across the street and hit the Old Towne Arvada Farmer’s Market. The girls and I went in the fountains and they had balloon figures stretched for them. We picked up a couple vegetarian breakfast burritos from a stand for some savory substance, and we headed home.
The afternoon wasn’t so cheerful. We should have forced down some fresh bread and cheese from the farmer’s market BEFORE heading home. Guess we’re still not in the clear on the wild tantrums. But fun morning, though.
Here’s some fun photos- HAD to, these jumpsuits are EPIC and i had to BEG them to wear at LEAST once and if there were any venue or occasion to wear such crazy jumpsuits it was to a rad, retro cereal box shop with toys. Yeah? And a short video at the end too!
Wearing: Rem and Lo are BOTH wearing vintage jumpsuits from my Etsy shop, Rolypolyz. (Both are currently up for grabs!) They are both wearing Native water shoes as well. This printed jumpsuit from Old Navy is adorable and only $10! OR this Cat & Jack jumpsuit for only $15! If you have a baby, this turquoise geometric one is ADORABLE! I am wearing this Madewell denim skirt, Vans sneakers, a tee from a museum in Chicago like 20 years ago, but this one is FUN, or this GUY, and a thrifted velvet jacket, (similar) or (inspiration piece) and least expensive similar jacket.
