Date: The Nutcracker
Last Saturday, the mister and I took a little time and headed downtown to see Colorado Ballet's annual performance of The Nutcracker. It always brings back so many fond memories when I am sitting in the audience and I hear that opening music before the party people start skipping across the stage. Having performed in this production about a decade ago as a young girl, I remember vividly getting dressed for each performance in the dressing rooms at this same theater and dancing on this very stage. I probably had the same smile plastered across my face as the multitude of children who came for this matinee performance who were probably seeing it for the first time.
As always, the show didn't disappoint. The costumes, the live orchestra, and of course the ballet!
We only slipped away from the kiddos to see the show, but I would have loved to leave earlier and have hot chocolate on Larimer Square before the show, or head to an early dinner downtown afterwards. Husband did suggest at least a dozen times and with as many options of things to do afterwards, but I had that mom intuition, unsettling feeling that we had to get back. Sure enough, as we were five minutes away, we got the call checking to see where we were...
Poor Arlo had a bad tummy and cried the entire time we were gone and Remy only napped for a half an hour. I hope to make it an annual tradition to see The Nutcracker, and I am so excited for the day I can dress Remy and Arlo up and put curls and bows in their hair and bring them to the show. To be in the moment and find the best in the situation and time you have right now can be tricky when you come home to two cranky babies, but it won't always be this way. Some day, the date will be with my girls, but today, this year, and possibly next, I have my handsome husband to escort me to the ballet. I am a very lucky lady to have a man who takes me to the ballet because he knows I enjoy it.
If you get a free night here in December and want to get in the spirit, this is a good date...
Have you ever seen The Nutcracker?
