Little Man Ice Cream in Lohi and Play
A couple of weeks ago I discovered Shannon Walkup Photography through Instagram! She has photographed many bloggers here in Denver and her attention to catching fashion details and excellent lighting and perspective on portraits really caught my attention. I reached out to her to see if she might be interested in photographing our family and her schedule opened up after the fourth of July so we made it happen! She sent over a great questionnaire ahead of time about things we might be interested in capturing. I liked where her head was at in that she wanted to do a little preliminary get-to-know-us before actually shooting. I SO WISH we would have met for a coffee chat beforehand though because she is SO interesting and talented and I wanted to get to know her more but we were rushing around chasing babies on a very HOT day. She handled US incredibly and was very sneaky! Hard to get "candid" shots when you are kids of a blogger momma. Remy is a TOTAL camera lover these days and she was so social and immediately attached to Shannon! Thank you for your patience Shannon!
We decided to head downtown to Little Man Ice Cream and we were there BRIGHT and EARLY. Well, early for ice cream eaters. We opened up the joint at 10 am and even caught them making the waffle cones fresh! That was fun for us to see! and SMELL!!! We tried the Salted Oreo, the Chocolate Whopper Malt Ball and a Strawberry one for Lolo because she always requests "Pink un, pink un..." They were all delicious, but again, we were chasing toddlers and I was busily wiping their cute little faces and hands trying to keep them picture ready that i didn't really ENJOY mine....soooooo guess we have to go back SOON!!!
There is a playground across the street that we have visited before and it sits on a hill. That park has been there FOREVER, but the skyline across I-25 and in LoHI has sort of masked the view which is a little sad. I moved in with my Great Aunt in the Highlands in my late teens and my first studio apartment was right above Mondo Vino on 32nd and Lowell! I used to work at a boutique on the corner of 15th and Central called Red Door Swinging, which is long since gone and is now Truffle Table, which sounds AMAZING and is definitely on my date-night list.....so LONG that list...
The park was SO FUN! Actually sort of shaded and they had a "she-shaw!" That's how Arlo says it! We all hopped on and it was so fun! Husband was game for all the slides that day, he's my third baby! He even did the slick metal one by Little Man Ice Cream! We got one shot of Remy going down it, see below, and Shannon actually caught it! So good! Arlo was a little hesitant, and I don't blame her, but Shannon snapped one of my absolute favorite shots of her and Mazen at the top!
Shannon, your warmth and genuine interest in wanting to preserve our family vibe through digital pixels was obvious when you sent over these images. What a great summer morning we had to spend together as a family of four and we were so lucky to have you with us to freeze a few of those moments for us.
If any of you are interested in family portraits that show you with that crinkle in the bridge of your nose because it only appears when you are really smiling and and you are just being you, and maybe you want to get that shot where you're kissing your kiddo after they bonked their head while trying to crawl under a bench...those REAL things, try Shannon!
Here are my favorites below!
Funny side note, in order to get the family shots at the end, the girls were NOT willing to come over to the shaded sidewalk area AT ALL... they wanted to play and play and they had made a little friend named Ava. Well, momma had a brilliant idea to have AVA steer the girls and direct them over to the sidewalk for a couple last photos and by golly it worked! They totally hung on every word from sweet Ava! Thank you sweetheart for your help in getting these girlies n the frame with us!
