Growing at the Gardens
One yearly membership I am seriously considering is the Denver Botanic Gardens. Visiting at different points throughout the year to see what is in bloom, scoping out the sculptures on display and splashing in the riverbanks at the Mordecai Children's Garden on sunny days at the Denver Botanic Gardens has become one of my favorite excursions and places to go with the girls! A quick search pulled up more posts than I even remembered on visiting the Denver Botanic Gardens since the girls were babes! Look at TEENY Remy at the gardens back in 2005 here, with a NEWBORN Lo! And another post there from that June- look at Lo's TEETH and chub and Remy is STILL wearing that thrifted Flap Happy hat! I JUST ordered them new ones literally last night- they are SO good! Also THIS post from Arlo barely walking stage there or THIS post from when Remy wore shorts and let me do her hair in adorable piggy tail buns and finally THIS post from just last year when we saw the Alexander Calder sculptures. Okay, I'm convincing myself I NEED that membership like...oh... um... years ago!
As soon as school let out, we headed over there to break in our new swimsuits and water shoes and get some outdoors air. One day into summer break and I felt the need to continue some sort of educational aspect. I had pulled out a stack of lined 5X7 cards a couple days before for the girls to stamp on for fun. I found the pack for less than a dollar thrifting. Little side note- always check the stationary section at your local thrift store! You'll find unopened packages of crayons, markets, paper, envelopes, you name it! A great place to get crafting things, yarn, buttons, beads, fabric- all on a dime compared to local craft shops. I always take a peek at it when I am in, but hope to really focus on it now that Remy is going to be a Kindie next year and Arlo is in pre-school in the fall! I really want to do activities and practice skills this summer. So that brings me back to those note cards. I knew we were headed to the gardens so I decided to jot down a few things to find there as a scavenger hunt. The girls were brilliant at it! Even finding and adding their own items. I might have to think something up that's more challenging!
I like to start off the gardens on the river rock side geared toads the kiddos, get them tucker out, change them, hit the restrooms and then stroll across the street to the gardens. We like to get a cold drink at their Bee Hive cafe. This time we got their wood fire pizza and it was VERY good!
We also saw a lot of the Pixelated sculptures, but to be honest by this point in the day, with the heat picking up, the girls weren't showing as much of an interest in them as I was! A reason to come back!
Here's some photos of the day and a video! I know, I know...I can't help myself!
Now that it is JUNE, summer plans, or lack there of are happening. What are your big summer goals this year?!
