Lime Green June
We met up with a friend at the Union Station splash pad last Friday and it pulled out the limeade in me!
Not much of a citrus fruit lover, but I have been drawn to the neon green in fashion lately and it has been fun to see it pop up in retail again. I recently saw a young girl wearing neon green spandex biking shorts in a series of photos and it took me back to age 6 or 7, when I started gymnastics competitively and I had an exact pair! I know bike shorts are “in”, but I just don’t believe all trends translate the same on all body types. Call me old fashioned. At least I don’t feel comfortable or confident in taking on all trends. Like that faux glasses trend. i just never even tried a pair on to be honest. Glasses are meant for people who need them to see, in my opinion, and I felt ridiculous even thinking I would attempt wearing a pair of frames with clear lenses. I just couldn’t.
Now, neon. Neon, I can do. Neon, I like.
I ran into this muumuu of a dress at Urban Outfitters a couple of weeks ago and something about it just pulled me in. Maybe it was the gingham print, the tie? The tea length? The sleeves? I love something with a good sleeve. When I first put it on, my husband recommended I pair it with a belt, which I did try, but in the end I went without and just added this crazy big faux floral clip i found recently at the thrift. I recently read an article about a century old company in the heart of Manhattan that specializes in silk florals, to this day, and they are one of the only manufacturers of silk flowers to this day. And they still make them all by hand, with incredible presses and molds and seamstresses. In fact, looked up the article for you because it’s THAT good. Here you go!
Since we were heading to the splash pad, and it wasn’t going to be a hundred degrees, we’ve been experiencing cool and RAINY weather here in Colorado, it was a good day to bust out the new polyester lime green dream. I tossed on the white rubber faux Birks (from Target last summer) because they are awesome for splash pads, grabbed a straw tote and some snacks, towels, sunscreen and we were out the door. I thrifted a bag similar to this one- loving the LONG shoulder straps, it allows you to put more things in! Speaking of Target sandals- did you see their FAUX version of the famous Hermes slide? I tried them on, they were a bit narrow on me, or something. In the ned they didn’t work on my food, but really cute slip-on for summer!
Ironically, not being one for the faux, I have mentioned now TWO fashion accessories, the fabric flower clip and the very impostor-like, except hello manmade materials, sandals. Sorry! I think that at the end of the day, it’s important to not be a slave to trends, that phrase bothers me, but embrace a couple and tweak them to fit you and your lifestyle and this- above everything, practicality! Comfort was a big bonus!
It’s been fun recently to be inspired personally by fashion and style, I go through spurts, and I am always spotting locations as I’m driving around town. Such was the case of the green dress day. I pulled over in the George Washington High School parking lot, school’s out FOR SUMMER! It was on the way home after the splash pad play date and R had fallen asleep, and A was fighting a nap and she popped out with me rigging up my camera to a tripod and jumped in a few frames barefoot, sweaty, disheveled and perfectly four.
Here’s a little style bit, and here’s to having a limeade or two this summer! We just visited an orchard and had a delicious frozen lemonade, my girls’ favorite. So what are you summer plans anyway?! Would lvoe to hear any ideas on traditions and activities- feel free to share in the comments!
