Humble Pie Shop Denver
Last week the sun was shining and we had a leisurely start to the day, so I decided on a whim to take the girls for a trip down to Colfax to get pie! I had driven past The Humble Pie Shop a couple Saturdays before, coming home from our art class, and made a mental note to come back. I have tried their pie before at their shop in the old Baker neighborhood, and I had seen their mini pies and stand at the Farmer's market at Cherry Creek over the summer, so when I saw their new bricks and mortar on Colfax I knew I wanted to pay a special visit.
The girls had a ball, or should I say bounce, on their long bench. No matter how many times I scold them, and sternly tell them to sit on their bottom, and no shoes on the bench, they continue to bounce like monkeys when we go to restaurants. Anyone else?! Luckily there wasn't huge crowds in there at the time.
The girls tried the mini pies of the day- peach blackberry and chocolate chess. Remy claimed the chocolate chess as her own and wouldn't let us go near it! After she left the crust to wander about I snatched a bite...DELICIOUS! The crust on this was caramelized and the center was thicker than a pudding, but softer than a brownie! I would get a whole one of these to bring home next time! YUM! The pack blackberry was a crowd pleaser with Lolo too. We all LOVE peaches, and while they aren't in season here just yet, you wouldn't know it from tasting this fruity pie. Sweet, moist and also very good.
They have gorgeous lighting in the shop and unique bar stools at a high top, with huge garage style windows facing Colfax; a perfect people watching spot. The coffee was VERY good too. Although I drank it standing up and had the scraps of the pies my girls left behind, it was a yummy visit just the same. #momlife They also have savory pies which I would like to try next time.
After the pie we used my handy playground finder app, "Playground Map," and found a park nearby on 12th, across from Rose Medical Center. We had the place to ourselves, and the wind. Usually at this time we would have been napping, but we pushed the day a bit longer after having a late start, and enjoyed the fresh air before heading home.
