Glad you found us!

I don't ski, I don't drink craft beer and I don't have a dog, but by golly I am a real Colorado native girl.  So now you can still believe in unicorns!  Here's my ode to motherhood, you know because all of us bloggers write like we were the first, only and last mama out there.

Preparing for a Baby Sister

Preparing for a Baby Sister

m-cover.jpg

We have been preparing Remy for a "baby sister" for a while now. It started by mentioning it and pointing to my stomach. As my stomach grew, I would point out "baby sister" to her when she was in her high chair and she would lovingly hug me or lay her head on my tummy and make a kissing sound with her lips. Then as we prepared the nursery, putting a crib together, hanging "baby sister's" clothes, we just started pointing out all the new baby things as they accumulated by calling them her little sister's. A new baby bouncer in the corner beckoned a seat of course, and we would add, "That's for baby sister." I would also stick her baby doll or stuffed animal in it and pretend that the bouncer soothed a crying baby. She never sat in it again, but she is still fascinated with the hanging toy bar.

Remy's old shoes and clothing are now in her sister's nursery area and I mention how Remy is bigger now so we are going to share them with baby sister. I had found a couple books at the thrift store on sisters and have read those to her as well. She wasn't too interested in those books as the pictures and stories weren't that great, but I may pull them out again as we are near.

Another thing I did was call one of her baby dolls, "baby sister." I would ask her where she was, why she was crying, should we feed her, and so on throughout the day. Remy would run and find her and bring her to me to rock and feed. Remy also holds her up against her shoulder and consoles and soothes her too and even holds her play bottle up to her mouth to feed her milk. These are all such positive signs, that I am hoping, hoping, we have an easier time transitioning to a family of four.

Now i hug and kiss Remy and snuggle and she brings me her dolls and we do "group hugs" and kisses and I mention that I have TWO babies. I keep reiterating that she is always my love and my heart and my baby, but soon mommy will have two babies and plenty of kisses to go around.

I have a couple friends who recently had their second babies, and their firsts are right around rem's age. One mother mentioned her tot having a harder time adjusting than she thought, and the other tot seems indifferent and ignores her sibling all together.

At the end of the day, she's getting a baby sister. She'll never remember this in the future, she'll only know having a sister by her side. I see her engagement with her cousins, making friends with new kiddos at the park and her smile and waves melting the hearts of strangers anywhere we go and I truly feel she is just a little ball of love and affection just ready to share it with a little friend.

Tonight I took her to the park and before heading out we slipped on a new pair of her favorite, and mommy's favorite, Freshly Picked moccasins, grabbed some chalk, and this time we also brought along "baby sister!" We went to a park nearby which has sand. What I love most about these mocs is how they don't come off, and sand doesn't get in! I love having a pair downstairs, ready to slip on before heading outside. No laces, no velcro, no socks, just a quick slide over the heel and we're out the door and her tootsies stay safe!

In fact, we love them so much, that we want you to give them a whirl for yourself! Freshly Picked has been so generous to give us a pair and a pair for one lucky reader too! Just enter the raffle below. Entries must be submitted by Sunday August 31st. The winner will be contacted directly via e-mail, and will be chosen at random. The winner will then get to decide on the size and color of their choosing! Feel free to shop their site to get an idea should you win! Oh, and don't fret if you don't win, you can also find these mocs in your local Norsdstrom stores now! Fun watching this little company from Utah grow!

Best of luck!
