RedLine Young Artists (Part 3)
She did it! (We did it rather!)
Remy completed her introduction to photography art class at the RedLine Denver art gallery on Saturday.
The last class ended with another story time book by Mo Willems, Naked Mole Rat, and the kids got to play dress up themselves afterwards and practice using a digital point-and-shoot camera to snap pictures of each other. This class Remy wasn't so into dressing up, or partnering up, or taking pictures really. She kept asking about "colors." I think this was a little fast paced and overwhelming for her.
Overall Remy impressed me with what she took away from the class and how well she did with listening, as best an almost two year old can do with so much going on, and I think she stretched her little mind that much more over the last three weeks.
Last night, as I was changing her diaper before bed, we recapped the day and I mentioned art class and she said, "teacher," after I said Bianca. Since we stay home together, it is important for me to put her in different scenarios where other people are in charge and carry different roles. As a wife of a high school teacher, I can tell you the horror stories of the lack of respect in our youth today, and it terrifies me! I strive to teach Remy respect of her elders. I want her to look people in the eye when they speak to her, I want her to be kind.
She has been on a huge hugging kick lately where she wants to hug everyone! As we walked into class, she spotted another little friend coming in and she said, "I want to hug her."
This phase of toddlerhood is AMAZING! Hard, testing, but so much fun and love!!! It just grows and grows...
Meanwhile back at the ranch, poor little LoLo has cut a tooth on the bottom and now one on the top and possibly the match to the top soon... My little baby is growing up too!!!
At the end of the class, the kids were able to make a collage from printed photos taken of them throughout the three week course, and then they provided us with a frame to put it in and take home. Remy had a ball with the glue stick!
At share time, they were presented with certificates of completion. I would have loved to stay after and exchange info with a couple little friends we met, however Remy was requesting to go home for the last half hour and I got the text, "LoLo is going nuts," so I dashed out of there. The joys of having a baby that refuses a bottle...
I had a wonderful time exposing my little Remy to art these last few weeks. I loved my drives downtown with her; on the highway with the, "big trucks," where we spotted the Denver skyline of "tall buildings" and passed the giant playground, (Six Flags Elitch Gardens.) I loved walking into RedLine art gallery with her and hearing her squeal at the paintings and art installations, "oooh pretty!" Her eyes so sparkly!
We have made wonderful memories together at this gallery. Thank you for a wonderful class Bianca!
