Glad you found us!

I don't ski, I don't drink craft beer and I don't have a dog, but by golly I am a real Colorado native girl.  So now you can still believe in unicorns!  Here's my ode to motherhood, you know because all of us bloggers write like we were the first, only and last mama out there.

School Day Nature Walk

School Day Nature Walk

I have been driving past these incredible bushes, natural brush, along my route to and from Remy's school since August, but the yellow just popped out all of a sudden and it kept begging me to photograph it! The other day I did JUST that. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have caught my late night rant on Stories recently about a closet clean-out and preparing for fall.  This is one of THE dresses I thrifted recently and I LOVE it!  Vintage, of course, and check out those shouldies on it!  It's also a mid-calf length which scared me for a long bit because I have cankles, but recently I have been more forgiving with myself and my body, telling myself that someday when I am old I am going to look back maybe and say, "MAN!  I was a cutie!"  So, letting go and doing some things with fashion that I probably shouldn't because I just LIKE it, that's why.  Wedges are also probably a big no-no for people like me challenged in the ankle department, but I have loved this pair from Elizabeth & James since I first found them at an insane sale.  You may find me wearing this dress all fall, it is SO comfy!  The full skirt on this thing is awesome, the purples and blues- it's a goodie!  Arlo requested, "TWIRL!"

Truth be told, I really wanted to snap SOMETHING against these pops of yellow, however it was tricky getting to them, and it didn't happen in the morning when Remy was at school, so we decided to all make an adventure out of it after we picked her up.  I debated, we needed lunch still, I had to pull a u-turn, I waffled, and Remy convinced me as I tried to talk myself out of it, "Mom, just do it.  Take the pictures like you planned to do."  Damn I love this girl.  Despite the gray skies, a fine mist, borderline sprinkle, even with the parking and the walking, we made it work.  Love this girls gumption and persistence.  These are some of my favorite photos of them and they would not have happened had I listened to myself and not the four year old.

So we did.  We parked, pulled out the tripod, and trekked into the bushes.  Turns out these wedges were NOT the best shoe for this terrain which left a 1/4 inch thick layer of CLAY-like mud along the bottom.  And the bushes kept snagging my tights as I darted back and forth trying to man the tripod.  Remy was so sweet she gently lifted the corner of my skirt off a bush at one point, she reminded me of her good deed today.  Love her... So you can visualize this scene of me prepping a camera on a tripod, in dirt, in these tall wedges.  Meanwhile the girls were safe along a fenced area on one side and a steep hill on the other and they found walking and drawing sticks, picked floral arrangements for me, blessed, and found animal holes and peered inside looking for woodland animals.  Their fingernails were outlined in the mud and it was even on Remy's lips.  They got it in their eyes, but that didn't phase them for long, they LOVE the outside so much and probably could have stayed longer.  We were there for TWO hours!  I would point out animal tracks to them, hoping it was a big dog, eeeek, and not a mountain lion.....ruh-roh...and I would show them different natural flowers.  as we were leaving Remy stopped and gently pet these yellow bushes, so soft.

We even found this crazy prickly fruit growing on the trees in the park nearby, WHAT ARE THESE?!  And a flock of geese gave us a show overhead before landing on this fountain.  A pretty memorable, beautiful, special Monday afternoon doing not much of anything but getting muddy.  We literally had to strip our boots and tights off and rinse them in this fountain before heading home.  It was all we had on our agenda, all we needed and the perfect nature trail we never knew existed.  Nobody suggested it, it's not a park, it's just a strip of pretty alongside the road we travel and we stopped to admire her.

Are you guys SO ready for the changing of seasons and all the color creeping in?!

...Glo

Remy is wearing a dress and turtleneck from Target last year.  I was just at Target yesterday getting a gift and their new girls' clothing is KILLER!  Look at THIS yellow dress! Arlo is wearing gray overalls from Zara and a faux fur vest from Target last year, (similar here).  This gray star romper would be cute with tights for fall!  My dress is thrifted/vintage but this purple and blue print, mid-calf dress is ADORABLE and $35!  My boots are tres old, Elizabeth & James, but this current pair by Rachel Comey is SUPER and only $110!!! My sunnies are Michael Kors, but these BLUE ones by MK are COOOOOL, and beanie I forget where from, but similar here.
