Splish! Splash! Great Plains Splash Pad Park
Remy is takin' a bath... This girl has a thing for water! Hubby and I decided to venture out to Great Plains Park in Aurora a couple of days ago with Remy so we could see what this whole "splash park" thing was all about. Last year, Remy was just itty bitty still so going to the pool was more about dressing her up and sitting in the shade and then breast feeding and doing diaper changes and then leaving after dipping feet in the water. This year, she is THIS close to walking and super energetic and LOVING sprinklers, fountains, baths and pools, so we can really enjoy water experiences the older, and more mobile, she gets.
This park was under 20 minutes from our house, just shout East on Iliff, and FREE!!! It was so crowded, even on this cloudy, 70 degree day, so I can imagine what it might be like when it really heats up this summer. Plenty of grass space and concrete ledges for hanging, and drying, out. AND there is a fabulous playground right next door. Pelnty of parking and easy to get to, I highly recommend it! Pack a lunch, bring a towel, get some mommies and the kids seem to occupy themselves! I loved seeing how the older kids enjoyed the park, young girls were filling up their sandwich baggies with water, and beach balls were rolling.
One of my favorite things about Remy is fearlessness and sense of adventure. I was COLD, but not her! She was literally PULLING her baba through those sprays and watching her with older kiddos is fascinating too- she is so CURIOUS and can't wait to be in on the action. She even found an older boy who was fond of her too...
We are looking forward to going back. A couple days earlier, we took her to our neighborhood indoor pool, Utah Park, and they also have an awesome play, splash area indoors and that's when we first got the clue that she dug this sort of thing. Nice to know that Utah Park pool is literally three minutes form the house, and indoors for rainy or stormy summer days. Oh, and the water in the pool at Utah is WARM!
Have you made it to any pools or water parks yet? Any faves?
Thanks for splashing in!
