Glad you found us!

I don't ski, I don't drink craft beer and I don't have a dog, but by golly I am a real Colorado native girl.  So now you can still believe in unicorns!  Here's my ode to motherhood, you know because all of us bloggers write like we were the first, only and last mama out there.

Striped Silk Blouse for Library Day

Striped Silk Blouse for Library Day

Anyone ever feel like their life is on auto-pilot? Ugh… school drops, cooking, cleaning… I definitely feel like we are on the tracks now that school has begun and we are entering a new stage in life. I am missing the days of sleeping in and being able to adventure beyond the 10 mile radius of schools and home during the week. This is life.

I know. I get it. Doesn’t mean I have to LOVE it. So….I think I am trying to do what shaking up I can and challenging myself to continue to get dressed everyday, whether or not. I love it when I go to pick Remy up from school in the afternoon and there is a sweet grandmother who picks up her grand daughter who is also in Remy’s class. She always compliments me and asks where I was headed to for the day all dressed up, and I have really interesting responses that surprise her like, the library.

Decided to document our library day today because we do this exact thing so often it’s worth having it locked in photos of my time with just Lo at the library when her sister is in school. We got to do this so much last year and now we get to enjoy it again together the two days she doesn’t have class.

Today, I ordered a pumpkin chocolate chip bread and by the time I sat down to have a bite after photographing these amazing vintage pumps I NEVER wear and recently was inspired to wear, and the bread was gone except a layer of crumbs on the paper plate and Arlo was taking her bobble-head toys and traipsing them through it like mud. Serves me right for doing a little photo shoot. She is such a good girl when we are together and knows how to keep herself engaged and occupied. There’s a used book store in the cafe at our library and all the children’s books seemed to have been snatched up, they just had a huge used book sale a couple weeks ago, so she found an adult book to flip through. Both of my girls have been fascinated with books, even adult reads that they pretend to “read.”

I finally sat to enjoy my coffee. This library branch serves up a local roaster, Coda coffee, and it is really delicious! I found some great art books and flipped though quickly. I always feel guilty when I am doing something for myself in front of my children, and she was so very very patient with me. We meandered over to the children’s section and she played with blocks while I picked out a few reads. I sat down to read a few pages of one i got for myself, “The Toddler Brain,” and I looked up and found her, as I often do, sitting on the floor reading one of her own picks. Today it was Peppe Pig. I always like to choose the books quickly, and then let her find a few on her own that catch her eye. In the past we have checked out a dozen or more at a time, and I told myself, and the girls, we aren’t going to do that so much anymore because it’s a lot for me to keep track of and we just weren’t making our way through them. I read aloud to them every night, and sometimes at lunch as well, but always at least once a day and at least two books, but they often gravitate to books already in our collection. I felt like I was hauling hoards of heavy books back and forth, and sometimes lately not making it back with them in time. So today I think we have seven or so. We read three of them today, and one was a HIT! Love discovering a gem in the mix and taking note of it to purchase for our permanent book shelf later.

Trying to make the most of short spurts of time during the week. Finding we are too exhausted after school to get anywhere besides home for play and lunch and rest, so adventuring will have to be saved for weekends. Sigh…

Have a great weekend ahead everyone! We have a special visit from Nana on the docket for Saturday and we’ll make pancakes. Pretty mellow one ahead. Looking forward to leaf peeping in the coming week or so!
