Glad you found us!

I don't ski, I don't drink craft beer and I don't have a dog, but by golly I am a real Colorado native girl.  So now you can still believe in unicorns!  Here's my ode to motherhood, you know because all of us bloggers write like we were the first, only and last mama out there.

Style: Momiform Variation II

"CHEEEEESEEE!"  That's what we say to Arlo to get her to pose for a photo and she runs up against the nearest wall, statue, inanimate object nearby and presses her back against it and poses for us.  So here is momma doing a little "cheesing," for the camera.  Documenting a momiform of mine: comfy cotton jersey dress and sneakers.  Also, documenting the day we did NOTHING. We woke up, and had NO plans!  When momma doesn't have anything thought of, she asks Remy what she wants to do.  Yesterday, she said stay home. And I listened.  Sometimes lately, she has been saying that more, and it's a HUGE reminder to momma to stay the f*#$% home sometimes.  Lately I have felt a little burst of "homey" energy lately; deep cleaning bathrooms at nap time, and actually, ENJOYING a little time in the kitchen.  Maybe it's this new year I just entered come to think of it!  I had a birthday Monday. Huh.

Anyway, I let them guide me all morning... until it was like 11:17 am, momma still hadn't had a delicious cup of coffee, and they were both in our bathroom tub and Remy was pumping Baba's body wash all over her hands and Arlo had my body wash...and momma really wanted to get outside and feel the sunshine.  I may have snapped just teensy bit.  I let them play and spill the toys and I followed Arlo when she wanted to crawl around in the pillows on our bed. I filmed them doing nothing, just playing.  Remy tucked a tiny stuffed kangaroo in her pants, she said it was her baby kangaroo in he pouch, and she pretend read to him from the tiny booklet from a ThredUp package.  Arlo sat in the corner on the little table and chair set that Remy has her Calico Critter setup and was throwing her head back laughing at herself.

I don't mean this to be a moment of applause, or pat on the back.  Like, "Yeah, you're a stay at home mom, doing your job... how exciting!"  BUT, it WAS exciting because it was intentional.  I am a go-go-go person and I LOVE to explore, but it's also just as thrilling to sit back like a fly on the wall and watch these beautiful beings.  It's also necessary to JUST BE.  It's a goal of mine, and I'm writing it down here because they say goals are better met when they are written down, it's a goal to do nothing at least one or two days during the week.  Because I can.  I HAVE this time.  Time to not BE somewhere.  "It's their world and I'm just living in it," as they say.  So true.  A sacrifice.  Putting yourself on a shelf for a bit.

SO here's yet another momiform you can honestly find me wearing if you were to run into me at Safeway, as I have done on a couple of occasions with mommas from story time. A longer hemline, tee shirt style dress that's the perfect balance of casual/sporty yet "dressed."  This one is an oldie but a goodie, from American Apparel.  It got me through two pregnancies and still bounced back to be worn now.  My sneakers are Diesel from the good old days when I worked at the store.  LOVE Diesel.  So that makes these guys like nearly 10 years old now. Gulp.

I am liking the comfort shoe trend, but I can't bring myself to buy a pair of slip on Vans like every other trendy mom and blogger girl out there right now.  They're just not me!  Haha!  I have been in there a few times and almost asked for a pair for my birthday, but decided that they just didn't feel like truly my style.  These brown and gold, slightly high tops feel me.  I don't have the most slender ankles, so the mid-calf length is probably, totally, frowned upon, but I love it.  Because I can bend down, bend over, get in the action, catch a falling baby, crawl around the bargain bins in the back of the grocery store (that was me yesterday), and no bits are hanging out anywhere.  Except my ugly "cankles."  Haha!

The last series of photos are the best.  A little #bts (behind the scenes) of Arlo FINALLY cracking a smile as we were strolling back to the car, and it was because she was grabbing fistfuls of Rmey's hair.  Remy was joking and leaning her head into Arlo's lap and doing it over and over again so they were both making a game of it, otherwise I wouldn't share.  They were being silly!

We love exploring and taking photos on the timer together.  Remy is getting into it!  Arlo was wandering around for most of the shoot, eating gold fish.

I LOVE these photos because I want to remember today forever.  Not about the dress, but what a great day I had.  Clothes have that power to put a moment into bronze.  You can look back at a photo of yourself in something and remember, the taste of the cake, the smell of that sweaty roller rink, how your arms had goosebumps as the sun was setting on that putt putt golf course...Leandra Medine of ManRepeller would agree.  LOVING her podcasts, Monocycle, in the car lately. Inspiring.

Here's to more NOTHING Days!
