Surfside Spray Park Lakewood
Last week husband was getting back to his coaching/teaching schedule and he also wanted to get a little, okay a LOT, of yard work done interrupted so I packed up the girls and took them to Surfside Spray Park in Lakewood. What a cool little park! It wasn't too far of a drive, but it was on the west side of town which did require Highway and 6th Avenue for us. The appeal to go so far for us was that is was NEW to us first of all, also it is only $1 per entrant able to walk, so $3 for us, and it also boasts a "toddler" section of the water park with sensory water tables, although bigger kids sort of took over the place filling up squirters. On the big kid side, there were moving parts that sprayed water, and one feature that dumps water from above when it fills up. Towards the end of our visit Remy made friends with a couple older girls who would sit underneath and wait to get poured on. I made a game of it to include Remy who was first sitting with me watching from a bench but quickly ran over to get in on the fun when I would call out, "Almost full, almost, almost FULL, ALMOST FULL, MOVE!" Then they'd all run, or duck!
Another wonderful thing about Surfside Spray Park was the big grassy area in the middle. Some young boys were playing catch with a water ball and Remy and Arlo looked on. There was plenty of grassy areas along the edge to set up your towels and also Sheltered picnic areas to park under as well- great for groups. In fact, we saw several day camps of school children and one adult supervisor of the group mentioned they drove all the way down from Thornton for it.
I hope to get back again at least one or two more times before splash season is done. I love that these splash pad/parks keep popping up! We have Del Mar near us, which I blogged about before here, but it wasn't really planned with toddlers/babies in mind, which I liked about Surfside. Hopefully more of these concepts will sprout up around Aurora/Denver!
